Setting a new beginning

Established in 1993, O+D came up as a company with a new idea: assisting the lighting projects of our partners from the point of view of space. The main objetive was and it is one: do not alter the original message; respect it and adapt the luminaires to the arquitect's original sketch. Keep the designer's concept and bringing it alive enlightening it.

Therefore, we had to remain away from the mainstream trends of the industry and take the risk of worshiping the space concept that we advocate from the very beginning. And the best place for work with this idea was an artistic scene such as galleries and exhibitions. There we could liven up different showrooms, respecting and improving the presence of every piece of art displayed. Thus, the company made some projects with Intervento, enlightening exhibitions in Caja Madrid's and Deutche Bank's Showrooms, both of them known for held significant expositions from Chillida or Jorge Castillo.

Thankfully, and with great efforts, we grew in significance and some retailers started to be aware of our presence in the lighting design. Springfield, Coronel Tapiocca and Aldeasa became our customers in the nineties and we could work in partnership with them around the world.

Such experience gave us the enough knowlegde for conveying it to new generations. It was then that O+D, also commonly referred as 'Diaz y Osorio' as well, brought out with the European Institute of Design a course of professional lighting. As a result, a great and useful program was designed and taugh by us at that time.

Creativity was a constant in our lighting projects, so we decided to set up a new business model inside the lighting industry focus on the new technologies. Having emerged this idea on any given day, we thought that it could work since just a few have exploited the implantation of new control systems on their lighting design projects. That is how Factor Luz came up to the market. New spaces requiered new and pragmatic ways of control. The implementation of LEDs and electronics should encourage lighting designers to reinterpret space and how it is used. Make it looks fresh and cozy without sacrificing comfort and accessibility. At least, it is what we thought.

If you put attention to these lines, you would learn that O+D is a company with a huge range of projects and areas of interest. Above all, because we do appraise art and innovation. That is the reason why several studios were very happy to work shoulder to shoulder with us: Estudio Lamela, Tomás Amat, Pascual Vera, Amán Canovas y Maruri, Carlos Manzano, Julián Vegas, Moneo & Brooks, Hans Abaton, EMA Arquitectos, Exit Arquitectos, Graphic Arts, Movil Arte, Camacho y Maciá are some of our old partners that chose us to work with in their singular projects.

It was the collaborative rol of each part involve what made possible and successful every project there. And, in O+D, we are proud of that and very pleased to accept any consultation meanwhile every one remains cooperative and willing to bring the project to a successful conclusion as we do now with Luxiona group.

Currently, O+D is restructuring its business model and improving for the new challenges that we face in the future. Sooner than later our partners could check how and in which direction is changing the company, but it doesn't mean that we are changing our mindset: recreate spaces keeping its sheer purpose, side by side with our partners.

So, if you identify yourself with these principles and you feel comfortable with our philosophy come and visit our section of 'Services' so as to know more about how we can help you out.

Passionate about art, Carmen studied Interiorism, and it is still now one of her best assets. During her studies, she came across with the idea of how important is the capacity of the light to distort the interpretation of space. So she decided learn about it and set as a goal molding new spaces with light.

These sort of resolutions, motivated by her curious nature, led the company to work in a variety of different fields. O+D benefited from her learning in Contemporary Art, Preschool Education, Industrial Design and another studies and hobbies that make richer her vision about the lighting design market.

A serious hard worker resposible for all the synergies generated in the core of the company. Working in the lighting industry up to 25 years, Manuel has brought to O+D the practical sense throughout his passion for Physics.

Light, as an object of study in Physics, can be designed on paper, but there are several implications to consider, undoubtedly. That is what seduced him to get into the lighing desing. Shortly, and after selling luminaires in the eighties, Manuel joined O+D in its foundational year, 1993, and he kept up the good work until nowadays becoming the backbone of the corporation.
